I finished the dragon I was making with my new shuttles!

¡Terminé el dragón que estaba haciendo con mis navetas nuevas!

It is a lovely pattern designed and shared by Anne Bruvold. I had done it once, way before I started blogging, so I am adding a photo of that first one too.

El hermoso patrón es diseño de Anne Bruvold. Ya lo había hecho una vez, mucho antes de tener blog, así que acá va también una fotito del primero.

The green one is done with size 8 DMC cotton perlé and a single strand of metallic mouliné. It has a lovely subtle glitter. The blue and purple one is my own hand dyed thread, macramé cotton (size TEX 220). It is quite bigger, as the thread is thicker but I am pleased because it is good to tatt with. The pattern is suitable for an adventurous beginner who wants to learn both the split ring techniques, and Anne herself has videos for them too! I encourage you to give them a try – as Anne says, the world can not have too many dragons!

El verde está hecho con hilo perlé numero 8 y una hebra de mouliné metalico, lo que le da un sutil brillo precioso. El azul y violeta lo hice con algodón macramé (TEX 220) teñido por mi. Quedó más grande, poruqe el hilo es más grueso, pero me alegra que sirve bien para frivolitear. El modelo puede servir para un principiante motivado que quiera aprender las dos técnicas de anillo dividido, y están los videos de Anne que las explican. Así que anímense a hacerlo, como dice Anne, ¡el mundo no puede tener demasiados dragones!

Today I present a special “guest creativity” post, with a tutorial for a 3-D geometric tatting design created by my brother.

Hoy les presento algo especial, un “invitado creativo”: mi hermano, con un tutorial para hacer un diseño geométrico tridimensional en frivolité.

Each of them is created with a single continuous thread and shuttle!

¡Cada uno está creado con una sola naveta y un solo hilo continuo!

The construction is very clever, using only rings and single shuttle split rings, and beads that serve the double purpose of anchoring the SSSR loop and sharpening the corners. All the details are on the tutorial explaining how he did them.

La construcción es muy ingeniosa, usa sólo anillos y anillos divididos de una sola naveta, más algunas cuentas (mostacillas) con el doble propósito de sostener el hilo al cerrar los anillos divididos y hacer agudos los vértices. Todos los detalles están en el tutorial que explica cómo los hizo. (El tutorial está sólo en inglés, pero ante cualquier duda, pregúntennos y les contestaremos en castellano)

A last photo to show how tiny they are! They could be made into really interesting earrings with the right thread/bead choice, I think…

The wooden one was a special birthday present hand carved from a single piece by my dear brother. The Christmassy one I won on a giveaway by Frivole.

La de madera la talló mi hermano a mano de una sola pieza como regalo de cumpleaños. La Navideña la gané en un sorteo de Frivole.

As you can see in the previous picture, I put the to use very soon!

Here is a better view of my project in progress: AnneB’s famous Minor Norwegian Drangon, in some more hand dyed thread – this time, really thick (at least for tattign) “macramé” cotton thread.

More Tiny Tatting ~ Más mini frivolité

The pattern: Susan K. Fuller’s “Heart’s desire” which has a new Super clear diagram (by Frivole) The thread: Size 80 “Elefante” cotton – Hand dyed by myself, my first one ever! I have pics of the dyeing session, where we did some fabric too, but I could not wait to try the thread, and I loved it!

Tiny Tatting ~ Mini frivolité

I have been itching to tatt Frivole’s “Le Flocon Frivole” (link to the free pattern in the right hand side of her blog) since she created it. So, it was my first tatt of 2012. I used some lovely DMC size 80 color 553 thread sent to me by Mercy in last year’s intatters thread exchange. Thank you both for your generosity!

Desde que a Frivole publicó “Le Flocon Frivole” (patrón gratuito disponible a la derecha en su blog) que quiero hacerlo. Usé un hilo DMC no 80, color 553 que me mandó Mercy en el intercambio de hilos que hicimos el año pasado en intatters. ¡Gracias a las dos por su generosidad!

I had not used such thin thread for a long time – in fact, I don’t think I had ever done anything more complicated than a 1 shuttle edging or the Posy with size 80 – so I feel quite brave for doing it. I love how dainty it looks!

Hacía mucho que no usaba hilo tan fino (de hecho, creo que nunca había hacho nada más complicado que una puntilla de una sola naveta o el Posy con hilo 80) así que me siento super valiente por hacerlo. ¡Me encanta lo delicado que quedó!

I knit a “thing”! ~ ¡Tejí una “cosa”!

So, I have not been tatting much lately… because I had been absorbed by knitting this fun, fun “thing”

No estuve frivoliteando mucho últimamente… ¡porque tejer esta cosa (muy divertida) me tenía atrapada!

It is a cube, made up of 8 smaller cubes, and linked in such a way that several configurations are possible – one can turn it round and round, and see different parts successively.

Es un cubo, hecho de ocho cubos más chicos unidos de tal modo que hay varias maneras de armarlo – uno lo va girando y girando, y viendo distintas partes sucesivamente.

The design is by Wooly Thoughts, but I took an extra challenge – to make it seamlessly, or as close to seamless as possible. It turned out, it is possible to make it quite close to seamless – I did it just sewing 8 edges, one for each cube – and even that could be done with knitting if one wanted.

El diseño es de Wooly Thoughts, pero yo lo hice con un desfío extra: tratar de hacerlo con la menor cantidad de costuras posible. Y resulta que se puede hacer casi sin costuras – yo lo hice cosiedo sólo 8 aristas, una por cubo – y se podría hacer incluso esto tejiendo si uno quisiera.

As you can see in the previous picture, each cube is linked to two others. So, one can finish one and continue one side to the next one, and have a long “garland” of cubes, until the last two faces.

Como se ve en la foto anterior, cada cubo va unido a otros dos, de modo que uno puede hacer un cubo y seguir con una cara del siguiente, obteniendo una especie de “guirnalda” de cubos, hasta llegar a las últimas dos caras.

As you can see, two different cubes can be assembled. I decided to make one in solid colours, and the other in stripes with white – it helped a lot to figure out which faces are “outside” and which “inside” before starting.

Como pueden ver, hay dos cubos posibles. Decidí hacer uno con el exterior en colores lisos y el otro rayado con blanco – ayudó mucho pensar cuales caras son “exteriores” y cuales “interiores” antes de empezar.

I made all the edges that join two cubes by continuing on with the plain color face, and joining the striped one later.

Yo hice las aristas que unen dos cubos siguiendo directamente el tejido de los lados lisos, y uniendo los rayados después.

Each cube is very simply made by knitting 10 stitch and 10 ridge garter square faces, and then picking up stitches and knitting them together at the edges as needed, in the same way that it is done in entrelac.

Cada cubo se hace muy simplemente, con un cuadrado de 10 puntos por 10 pares de vueltas an santa clara para cada cara. La siguientes caras se unen levantado puntos del costado y tejiendo juntos los últimos puntos de cada vuelta según sea necesario, del mismo modo que en la técnica entrelac.

It was a really great project, but quite mind-absorving!

Fue un proyecto muy divertido, aunque bastante rompe-coco!

Ensalada veraniega ~ Summer salad

Hoy, la inspiración fue culinaria. Ensalada veraniega (para cuatro personas como acompañamiento):

• 4 tomates medianos
• 3 paltas chicas
• 3 pepinos medianos
• 2 fetas gruesas de jamón crudo (supongo que panceta dorada hasta que esté crocante y desmigajada también andaría)

Cortar las verduras: tomate en gajos o cubos, palta en cubitos, pepino en rodajas bien finas. Cortar las fetas de jamón en 3 partes a lo ancho y tiritas de 1 cm a lo largo, y enrollar cada pedacito. Mezaclar todo.

Aparte, mezclar bien:

• 2 cucharadas colmadas de queso crema
• 4 cucharadas de salsa de soja

Justo antes de servir, volcar el aderezo en la ensalda, mezclar todo, y… ¡A disfrutar!

Today, inspiration struck in the kitchen. Summer salad (serves 4 as a side salad):

• 4 medium sized tomatoes
• 3 small avocados
• 3 medium sized cucumbers
• 2 thick slices jamón crudo (I think bacon could work instead, just baked until crisp and then diced or crumbled)

Cut the vegetables: Tomato in cubes or wedges, avocado in small cubes, cucumber in very thin slices. Cut the slices of jamón crudo in thirds width wise and then in 1/2 inch stripes length wise. Roll each stripe. Mix everything together.

In another small bowl, mix well:

• 2 heaped tablespoons cream cheese
• 4 tablespoons soy sauce

Just before serving, mix the dressing with the salad and… enjoy!
