No estuve publicando mucho últimamente… pero sí que hice unas cuantas cosas. Hoy les muestro un tejido que terminé hace relativamente poco. Acá está la página del proyecto en ravelry con los detalles técnicos.

I used a pattern for a scarf, but I did 4 repeats across to make a potholder/coaster.

Usé un patrón de bufanda, pero repetido cuatro veces a lo ancho para hacer una agarradera/posapavas.

I love how such a simple pattern gives such a clear optical illusion effect!

¡Me encanta que un patrón tan sencillo de un efecto de ilusión óptica tan marcado!

In the next picture you can see the back of the work – the technique I used, called “double knitting”, produces a thick, double sided fabric that has stockinette on both sides. Here is just one link to a series of three videos explaining it. (A search in you tube produces many more, and I did not review them, this is just one of the ones I saw when learning) The technique is fascinating and rather addictive, even if I must admit, a bit slow.

En la siguiente foto puede ver el revés del tejido – la técnica que usé, conocida como “double knitting”, produce una tela gruesa, doble, que se ve como tejida del derecho por ambos lados. Acá les dejo link al primero de una serie de tres videos que la muestran (no encontré ninguno en castellano, perdón… hay varios más en you tube este es sólo uno de los que me sirvieron cuando estaba aprendiendo). Es una técnica fascinate y casi adictiva, aunque debo admitir que algo lenta.

On the tatting front, I am very happy that both my giveaway winners got their “loot”, so I look forwards to seeing what they create with it.

This is a special but very simple set I made as a present. Just a ring and single shuttle split ring, with a fun decoration on the second. I hide the start thread end by tatting over the tail for the first few double stitches of the first ring, and use the single shuttle split ring (SSSR) to hide the end. The thread (size 20 Lizbeth “Jelly bean”) makes them super funky and striking!

Este juego es un regalo especial pero super sencillo. Son simplemente un anillo y un anillo dividido de una sola naveta, con un colgantito enhebrado en el segundo. Tejo sobre el extremo del principio y uso la técnica del anillo dividido de una sola naveta (SSSR) para esconder el hilo del final. Con el hilo Lizbeth “Jelly Bean” no. 20, ¡quendan divertidos y llamativos!

First prize is what I pictured in the original post, and has first choice of thread size (I only have one skein of each size). For the second one I will get similar beads, another wire shuttle, any skein not chosen by the first winner, and I will add a different motif tatted by myself (I have not chosen which yet!)

So, this is the third post in the “what can I do with the goodies if I win?” series. I hope it answers lots of questions I got about the strangest of the items I am giving away: the thin wire shuttle.

Bueno, este es es tercer artículo de la serie “¿qué hago con las cositas si las gano?”. Espero que conteste las preguntas que recibí sobre el objeto más raro del sorteo, la naveta de alambre.

In the previous photo you can see the shuttle next to a ruler, so you can see its size. It has been filled until the thread is as thick as the shuttle width. The shuttle is then used just like any shuttle to make “normal” rings and chains.

En la foto anterior pueden ver la naveta sobre una regla, para tener una idea clara del tamaño. La naveta se llena hasta que el grosor que ocupa el hilo sea parecido al ancho de la naveta, y se la utiliza como cualquier naveta para hacer anillos y cadenas “normales”.

When you want an interlocking ring, you carefully pass the shuttle through the ring before putting the thread round the fingers, and tatt the ring. When you close it, the rings will be interlocking!

Cuando queremos un anillo entrelazado con el anterior, pasamos con cuidado la naveta por el anillo antes de poner el hilo alrededor de los dedos, tejemos los nudos del anillo, y cuando lo cerremos, ¡los anillos quedarán entrelazados!

I must say, there is a small “trick” I do to make the tatting with the interlocked ring easier. I will show it here on another ring. Once I have the thread going through the ring and around my fingers, I slide the ring behind them, so they are not in the way. When I finish tatting, before closing the ring, I “backtrack” with the shuttle, going though the first ring but in the opposite direction than before. I hope the next images show you what I mean:

Debo admitir que hay un pequeño “truco” que utilizo para que tejer con el anillo entrelazado sea más sencillo. Lo muestro a continuación, sobre otro anillo. Una vez que el hilo está entrelazado y alrededor de mis dedos, deslizo el anillo anterior hacia atrás de los dedos. Cuando termino los nudos, y antes de cerrar el anillo, “retrocedo” con la naveta a traves del anillo inicial en la dirección contraria que antes. Espero que las siguientes fotos ayuden a enterder lo que digo:

 
This process can be repeated, weaving one ring with both the previous ones – or even three. Here I show a piece in process, with one finished four ring knot, and one where only the first three are made, so you can see what the progress looks like.

Se puede volver a hacer lo mismo pero entrelazando con dos o tres anillos previos. En la siguiente foto pueden ver un nudo celta de cuatro anillos, y uno en proceso, con sólo tres entrelazados.
 

The pattern to the motif I have been showing can be found here (in German). We had a long discussion about it last year at InTatters, including an English version. Of course, it is not the only pattern that can be made taking advantage of the thin shuttles!

El patrón del motivo que estuve mostrando se encuentra acá (en alemán). El año pasado tuvimos una larga discusión sobre el patrón en InTatters, que incluso resultó en una versión en inglés de la explicación. ¡Por supuesto, no es el único patrón que puede hacerse usando la naveta angosta!
 

The thread is hand dyed, but not by me but by a friend from Chile. You can ask me for her contact information if you are interested in trying her thread!

El año pasadp Jane consiguió unas cuentas planas, y estuvo haciendo muchas cosas con ellas. El siguiente motivo me llamó mucho la atención, así que compré las cuentas… ¡y quedaron en el fondo del cajón! Con el incentivo de “hacer algo en frivolité que estuvieramos postponiendo” para el día internacional del frivolité el domingo pasado, más algunos comentarios en mi sorteo de Abril preguntandose cómo quedarían con mi hilo arcoiris, las busqué y puse manos a la obra. Otra idea que puede hacer quien gane es la lechuza que hizo hace poco Sherry. Está basada tambien en un patrón de Jane. Su página de patrones es un verdadero tesoro, acá incluyo enlaces directos a los dos patrones que mencioné: “Star motif 2011 (motivo estrella 2011)” y “Owl family (familia de lechuzas)“

I used my hand dyed thread in size 40, and I got again the pleasant surprise that the colours work up perfectly, with the whole round using exactly two colour repeats. I did have to adjust the number of point and the stitch count, and to add thread as I had been very cheap and loaded just as much as Jane recommended, and with the extra points, I was just a bit short. I had a lot of fun with it! I started it on Sunday, celebrating international tatting day. Next time I think I’ll try it with thicker thread, as the bead looks a bit heavy with this…

Lo hice con hilo número 40 del que teñí yo, y tuve que adaptar un poco el motivo porque cuatro puntas no me alcanzaban para dar la vuelta a la cuenta. Otra vez (de casualidad de nuevo) el largo de los colores estuvo perfecto – ¡dos repeticiones dieron justo la vuelta! Estuvo muy divertido, si lo vuelvo a hacer usaré hilo un poco más grueso, porque la cuenta se ve un poco “pesada” en relación…

So, this is my first “giveaway item” post. I am planning on doing a few more before closing it on the 27th April. With 73 entries now, it is much more of a success than I expected – do not hesitate to join if you think you would enjoy the prize and haven’t done it already!

Hoy 1ro de Abril es el día intenacional del frivolité. Noe s que me haga falta un día especial para frivolitear, compartirlo, y comer chocolate, pero lo divertido es que hay mucha actividad en la comunidad de frivolité en linea. Hay dos reuniones de chat planeadas por Georgia en el sitio de las clases en linea (a las 3PM and 8:30 PM hora d eNueva York), con patrones de Nina Libn, Sherry publicó un nuevo libro, Totus Mel puso a la venta un colgante de edición limitada en su  tienda virtual, Rachel (The Piney Woods Tatter) publicó un simpático patrón gratuito en su blog,en el grupo Frivolité en Español está la galería de huevos de pascua del desafío de Marzo… Hay mucho más, es cuestión de empezar a recorrer los blogs de frivolité para darse cuenta que ¡esto es sólo un poquito de la diversión del día de hoy!

Personally, I am using some of my rainbow thread and a flat bead (like the ones here!) to try this pattern by Jane Eborall. I am having to tweak it a bit as the thread I chose is too thin… 

Personalmente, yo me decidí a probar las cuentas planas (¡como las que pueden ver  acá!) con el hilo arcoiris, y hacer  éste patrón de Jane Eborall. Elegí un hilo muy fino así que los estoy adaptando un poco…

One of the great things about “tat-land” is how generous it is. I have been the grateful, happy recepient of several giveaways, (and I do enter almost every one I see!) and it is now time to give something back! It is a humble little “this-and-that rainbow” prize, with bling, tool, thread and lace!

Una de las cosas especiales del mundo virtual del frivolité es la generosidad. Estoy super agradecida y contenta de haber recibido varios premios en diversos sorteos (si, ¡me anoto en casi todos los que veo!), ¡es hora de de dar algo a cambio! El premio es un humilde “arcoiris de un poquito de todo”, con cuentas, herramienta, hilo y encaje.

• Tool: a celtic wire shuttle hand made by my brother. Perfect for interlocking rings!
• Thread: a 50m hank of my rainbow hand dyed. And the winner can choose the size! I’ve got 80, 50, 20 and 10. (pictured is size 20)
• Tatting: a tiny sample of the celtic rings you can do with the wire shuttle, and a small round motif.

• Cuentas: un manojo de cuendas redondas planas de nacar.
