Row counting bracelets ~ Pulseras cuenta vueltas

Hace un tiempo que hago pulseras-ábaco, para contar las vueltas en el tejido. El diseño es muy simple e ingenioso, y permite deslizar las cuentas hacia uno u otro extremo de la pulsera, y que no se muevan solas.

I have been making abacus row counting bracelts for some time. The design is clever and simple, and lets one slide the beads to one end or the other of the bracelt, and them not sliding back on their own.

 

Como me han pedido que explique cómo usarlas, le dejo estas notas.

Since I have been asked how to use them, I’m writing this quick guide.

Casi todas las pulseras tiene un “lado distinto” – en la foto superior, la primera cuenta de cada hilera es del color de las demás cuentas de la otra. A veces incluyo una cuenta decorada en cambio, pero el objetivo es el mismo: saber de un vistazo que por ese lado se empieza a contar. (Si no hay “lado distinto”, hay que recordar si se comenzó en el lado del gancho o del ojal)

Most of my bracelets have a “different end” – in the photo above, the first bead of each column is in the colour of all the other bedas of the other. Sometimes I use a decorated bead instead, but the point is the same: so you can see at a glance that is the end where you have to start counting. (If there is no “different end”, you must remember if you started counting from the clasp or the loop side)

Entonces, al empezar un trabajo, se deslizan todas las cuentas al extremo opuesto al diferente, como se puede ver en la pulsera de la izquierda de la foto superior. Este es el cero.

So, when you start your work, you slide all the beads away from that end, like you can see in the brecalet on the left of the last picture. This position is zero.

Al terminar la primer vuelta se desliza la cuenta “distinta” de la columna de la derecha hacia el otro extremo. La cuenta es uno. Cada vez que se termina una vuelta, se desliza una cuenta de esa columna hacia el lado “distinto” – ahora, se sabe cuantas vueltas se tejieron contando las cuentas de ese lado.

When you finish your first round you slide the “differnent” bead from the right side column to the other end. You now have one bead on the “different” end, so the count is one. As you finish the next rows, you slide one bead from the same column to the “different” end – your count is how many beads you have on that side.

Al terminar la décima vuelta, no quedan más cuentas para deslizar de la columna de la derecha – se desliza la primera de la columna de la izquierda, y se regresan todas las de la derecha a la posición inicial. La cuenta es ahora 10 – uno en la columna de las decenas, cero en la de las unidades.

After the tenth row, you will find you don’t have any more beads to slide in the right column – you slide the first one of the left column to the top, and slide all the ones in the right to the initial position. Your count is now 10 – one in the tens column, zero in the ones.

Se sigue de la misma manera, pasando de a una las cuentas de la derecha hasta que sea acaban, y entonces agregando una de la izquierda y volviendo todas las de la derecha atrás. Acá tienen un ejemplo donde la cuenta es 24:

Yo go on the same way – slide the right column beads one by one until there are no more left, then slide one from the left and slide back all of the rght ones. Here is an example, showing a row count of 24:

Cuando tengo cuentas con números hago algunas aún más fáciles de usar. Acá pueden ver una con una cuenta de 64.

Sometimes I get numbered beads, and then the counting is even easier. Here is an example showing a count of 64.

Como pueden ver en esta última imagen, con las dos columnas podemos contar hasta 99. Si necesitamos más, podemos volver a empezar de cero – ¡No es probable olvidarse que uno tejió 100 vueltas!

As you can see in this last image, with the two columns one can count up to 99. If we need more, we can start over – it’s not likely one will forget having knit a 100 rows!

Como ya les conté, estoy siguiendo el “Teje y Verás” (TIAS por sus siglas en inglés) de Jane Eborall. Voy medio atrasada, ya que mañana sale la pista 7 y yo vengo a mostrarles mi trabajo del día 2… ¡pero me estoy divirtiendo igual! Cualquiera puede unirse en cualquier momento. Aunque no piensen hacerlo, pasen por el blog a ver los motivos que llegan desde todo el mundo.

I have been asked about the beautiful shuttles I am using – they are La Cossette‘s. I won one from Frivole a while back, and Fox gifted me the other.

Me preguntaron por las hermosas navetas que estoy usando – son de La Cossette. Una la gané en un sorteo navideño de Frivole, y Fox me regaló la otra.

The other news is that I am now teaching tatting! One of my students is advanced, here you can see her tackling split rings (yes, she is doing the TIAS too!)

La otra novedad es que estoy enseñando frivolité! Una de mis alumnas es avanzada, y acá pueden ver que está aprendiendo a hacer los anillos divididos (si, ¡con el TIAS!)

The other made this butterfly in her very first lesson… I am so happy and proud of them!

La otra hizo esta mariposita en su primera clase… ¡Estoy muy feliz y orgullosa de ellas!

Fun swaps, and more! ~ Intercambios divertidos, ¡y más!

So… I have been rather silent here on the blog this year. Which is  pity, because I actually did a lot of crafting, and also had  fun with some exchanges in tatting-blog-land. I decided to try to recap the year, and this post will focus on the swaps. 🙂

Bueno… estuve un tanto silenciosa en el blog este año, lo cual es una pena porque en realidad hice muchas manualidades y me divertí con varios intercambios en el mundo del frivolité virtual. Decidí hacer una recapitulación del año, y en este artículo les voy a contar sobre los intercambios 🙂

Vamos de lo último a lo primero…. Esto es lo que me mandó Marty – acá está la publicación de cuando lo mandó, y sí, ¡me encanta el hilo! Y ¡las navetas ya estuvieron trabajando!

The swap was organized by Wickedtats – check her blog to see all the amazing shuttles that flew all around the globe! Thanks so much for organizing this. It was really special to take part, and it totally sparkled my tatting and blogging mojo!

Este intercambio fue organizado por Wickedtats  – miren en su blog todas la hermosisimas navetas que volaron alrededor de todo el mundo. Le agradezco mucho por organizarlo, fue muy especial para mi participar, y ¡me alegra que me despertó a frivolitear y bloggear de nuevo!

Here is the post by Victats where she shows the things I sent her. It was fun to put the package together – when I signed in I immediately thought of sending a pair of the wire shuttles my brother makes, but since they are so small I decided to add one of the beautiful La Cossettes that Fox had sent me earlier this year, after a rather eventuful thread swap. My package arrived safely, and she put it use soon – I am in total awe of the wonderful edging Fox tatted with my thread – it is really soemthing special to see one’s creations come alive far away… However, the special thread she sent was lost in the mail, so later she not only sent me some of Jess!‘s gorgeous  Tat-i-licious thread as a replacement – but also a couple of La Cossettes. I kept one, and passed on the other to Victats 🙂

Acá pueden ver donde Victats muestra lo que yo le mandé. Fue divertido armar el paquetito – en cuanto me anoté supe que quería mandar un par de las navetas de alambre que hace mi hermano, pero como son tan pequeñas decidí agregar una de las hermosas La Cossettes que Fox me había enviado a principios de año, cuando su envío en un intercambio se perdió. El mío en cambio llegó sano y salvo, y ella en seguida puso manso a la obra – todavía me admiro de la maravillosa puntilla  que tejió Fox con mi hilo arcoiris. Es verdaderamente especial ver a nuestras propias creaciones cobrar nueva vida lejos nuestro… Para reemplazar el hilo perdido, no sólo me mandó dos mandejas de hilo “Tat-i-licious“, teñido por Jess!, sino tambien dos navetas “La Cossette”.  Son hermosisimas… Me quedé una, y la otra se la mandé a Victats. 🙂
