Today I bring you a simple motif I consider my “comfort tatt”…
El motivo que hoy les traigo es mi “frivolité recomfortante”…

The pattern is Posy from Mary Konior’s book “Tatting with Visual Patterns” and here I show you three I made some months ago to send to Handy Hands for their new Lizbeth gallery, and two I made last week with my hand dyed rainbow thread (the same I used here and here)

As you can see, the colour variegation in my thread keeps working up spectacularly! I wound the thread onto the shuttle from the other end to make the second one with the colours in reverse order.

Como pueden ver, las variaciones de color de mi hilo siguen dando un resultado ¡espectacular! Para el segundo motivo, llené la naveta empezando por el otro extremo del hilo, de modo que el orden de los colores quedara invertido.

And now I have loaded my special shuttle (with size 8 DMC cotton perlé, my favourite color 115) for a simple edging…

Y ahora llené mi naveta especial (con perlé DMC no. 8 en mi color favorito, 115) para una puntilla sencilla…

New Stitch Markers for knitting ~ Nuevos marcadores de puntos para tejer

This is a special but very simple set I made as a present. Just a ring and single shuttle split ring, with a fun decoration on the second. I hide the start thread end by tatting over the tail for the first few double stitches of the first ring, and use the single shuttle split ring (SSSR) to hide the end. The thread (size 20 Lizbeth “Jelly bean”) makes them super funky and striking!

Este juego es un regalo especial pero super sencillo. Son simplemente un anillo y un anillo dividido de una sola naveta, con un colgantito enhebrado en el segundo. Tejo sobre el extremo del principio y uso la técnica del anillo dividido de una sola naveta (SSSR) para esconder el hilo del final. Con el hilo Lizbeth “Jelly Bean” no. 20, ¡quendan divertidos y llamativos!

It’s never late to join the game ~ ¡Nunca es tarde para jugar!

Last year, corinne started a game on her blog – she invited us to tatt the centre motif of this doily designed by be-stitched, using our colour chioce, and to show her the result… well, here are the ones she got in time, and right here in this post is mine too now! (I did make it during the “blue phase” last year, just never got around to posting about it nor sending it to corinne…)

 

El año pasado, corinne propuso un juego en su blog – nos invitó a tejer el centro de este tapete publicado por be-stitched, usando los colores que prefiereamos, y que le mostrasemos el resultado… bueno, acá pueden ver los que recibió a tiempo, y ahora, acá abajo, ¡está el mío tambien! (Lo hice en realidad el año pasado, durante la “época azul“, pero nunca llegué a publicarlo ni mandarlo…)

Playing with flat beads ~ Jugando con cuentas planas

I have been itching to tatt Jane’s flat bead motif since she showed it last year. I bought some flat beads right away, and then left them at the bottom of a drawer… She had a nice play around with them, here are some search results for the differnt things she did with them on her blog. This could give you some ideas of what to make if you happen to win my April giveaway! There is also Sherry‘s super cute owl that has flat bead eyes too! El año pasadp Jane consiguió unas cuentas planas, y estuvo haciendo muchas cosas con ellas. El siguiente motivo me llamó mucho la atención, así que compré las cuentas… ¡y quedaron en el fondo del cajón! Con el incentivo de “hacer algo en frivolité que estuvieramos postponiendo” para el día internacional del frivolité el domingo pasado, más algunos comentarios en mi sorteo de Abril preguntandose cómo quedarían con mi hilo arcoiris, las busqué y puse manos a la obra. Otra idea que puede hacer quien gane es la lechuza que hizo hace poco Sherry. Está basada tambien en un patrón de Jane. Su página de patrones es un verdadero tesoro, acá incluyo enlaces directos a los dos patrones que mencioné: “Star motif 2011 (motivo estrella 2011)” y “Owl family (familia de lechuzas)“

I used my hand dyed thread in size 40, and I got again the pleasant surprise that the colours work up perfectly, with the whole round using exactly two colour repeats. I did have to adjust the number of point and the stitch count, and to add thread as I had been very cheap and loaded just as much as Jane recommended, and with the extra points, I was just a bit short. I had a lot of fun with it! I started it on Sunday, celebrating international tatting day. Next time I think I’ll try it with thicker thread, as the bead looks a bit heavy with this…

Lo hice con hilo número 40 del que teñí yo, y tuve que adaptar un poco el motivo porque cuatro puntas no me alcanzaban para dar la vuelta a la cuenta. Otra vez (de casualidad de nuevo) el largo de los colores estuvo perfecto – ¡dos repeticiones dieron justo la vuelta! Estuvo muy divertido, si lo vuelvo a hacer usaré hilo un poco más grueso, porque la cuenta se ve un poco “pesada” en relación…

So, this is my first “giveaway item” post. I am planning on doing a few more before closing it on the 27th April. With 73 entries now, it is much more of a success than I expected – do not hesitate to join if you think you would enjoy the prize and haven’t done it already!

Happy international tatting day! ~ ¡Feliz día internacional del frivolité!

April 1st is International tatting day. Not that I need a special day to tatt, show it off, and eat chocolate, but still, it is fun that there is a lot of activity in the on-line tatting world. Georgia is having two live chat sessions (3PM and 8:30 PM NY time) featuring patterns by Nina Libn, Sherry has released her latest book, Totus Mel has a special edition pendant for sale in her shop, Rachel (The Piney Woods Tatter) has a small free pattern on her blog, the Spanish Speaking tatting forum participants are showing off the March Easter egg challenge… And I there is much more, just click on any to the links and go to more tatting blogs to see how this is just a bit of the tatting fun!

Hoy 1ro de Abril es el día intenacional del frivolité. Noe s que me haga falta un día especial para frivolitear, compartirlo, y comer chocolate, pero lo divertido es que hay mucha actividad en la comunidad de frivolité en linea. Hay dos reuniones de chat planeadas por Georgia en el sitio de las clases en linea (a las 3PM and 8:30 PM hora d eNueva York), con patrones de Nina Libn, Sherry publicó un nuevo libro, Totus Mel puso a la venta un colgante de edición limitada en su  tienda virtual, Rachel (The Piney Woods Tatter) publicó un simpático patrón gratuito en su blog,en el grupo Frivolité en Español está la galería de huevos de pascua del desafío de Marzo… Hay mucho más, es cuestión de empezar a recorrer los blogs de frivolité para darse cuenta que ¡esto es sólo un poquito de la diversión del día de hoy!

Personally, I am using some of my rainbow thread and a flat bead (like the ones here!) to try this pattern by Jane Eborall. I am having to tweak it a bit as the thread I chose is too thin… 

Personalmente, yo me decidí a probar las cuentas planas (¡como las que pueden ver  acá!) con el hilo arcoiris, y hacer  éste patrón de Jane Eborall. Elegí un hilo muy fino así que los estoy adaptando un poco…

Rhapsody in Blue ~ Rapsodia en azul

I made this last year, but I was too busy to post about it at the time. I actually had a “blue phase” last year, when without any planning I had 5 or 6 projects in a row, of different kinds and techniques, all with at least some blue (one of them was the big fish). This was the shiniest of all, though!

Hice esto que hoy les muestro el año pasado, pero no hice tiempo de escribir al respecto en el momento. Fue  seguramente el más vistoso de una “etapa de azules” en la, sin planearlo en absoluto, que hice 5 o 6 proyectos seguidos, de distintos tipos y con en distintas técnicas, pero todos con algo de azul. (Otro de ellos fue el gran pez)

The sewing was super simple (not even seamed!) as it was intended to be seen from stage. Here is a detail of the neckline and the head wear.

La costura en sí fue super simple, ya que siendo un traje para usar en el escenario, no hacía falta ser muy detallista (incluso dejé los bordes sin ninguna terminación). Acá pueden ver el escote y el adorno para la cabeza.

I had a lot of fun with the headband. At the time at the on-line Spanish speaking tatting group we had a technique study about the Oya style of tatting, and it was just perfect to adorn a flapper style fascinator. Here is a video explaining the technique (thanks Karen!)

Me divertí mucho con el adorno para la cabeza. En el grupo de frivolité en Español estábamos estudiando el estilo de frivolité turco Oya, y la verdad que está perfecto para esto. Acá hay un excelente video explicando la técnica (¡Gracias una vez más a Karen por su siempre creciente serie de videos didácticos!)

As you can see, I used a feather in it, as no flapper fascinator is complete without one. So I am using this as my entry to Heather’s “Scavenger hunt” challenge this week.

Como no podía ser de otra manera, tiene un pluma, que es uno de los desafíos de la “Búsqueda del tesoro” que propuso Heather esta semana.

If I were do sew a flapper costume again, I would use several rows of fringes in a contrasting colour (for instance, black fabric and red fringes, or the other way round) – no regrets, though, it was well enjoyed!

Si tuviera que hacer otro traje de charleston, usaría flecos en un color contrastante (por ejemplo, tela negra y flecos rojos, o al revés) – igual no me arrepiento de cómo quedó este, ¡que fue disfrutado a pleno!

Tatted Moustache Bookmark ~ Bigote señalador en frivolité

A while back I was given a challenge: Tatt a moustache for a Poirot fan.

Of course, I could not let go. After some research, I did the first round of  Mark Meyer‘s Paisley Pattern. It curved the opposite way it was supposed to, but… It worked!

Hace un tiempo alguien que es fan de Poirot me desafió a hacer su famoso bigote con frivolité.
Por supuesto, no lo dejé pasar. Después de investigar un poco, me decidí por usar la primera ronda del motivo “Paisley” diseñado por Mark Meyer. Se me curvó para el lado contrario del que se suponía pero… ¡funcionó!

Tribute to The Tatting Goddess: Priscilla revisited ~ En memoria de Gina: un patrón de Priscilla

Let’s all blog sweet things in tribute to Gina on Friday, each on our on blogs and when we get time to post. I think Gina would be very pleased.

Of course I had to do this. As I said in my last post, Gina was the Tatting Goddess indeed. But, when I looked back at her blog and my tatting pictures, I realized I have never actually tatted any of her patterns. I also lack the words to write a fitting tribute – I did not know her so well, and others are doing it much better. So, instead, I will be sharing today a re-writing of an antique pattern that I did a while back. This one is in Spanish and English and I will add it to my Patterns page. I humbly think it is a fitting memorial, since she gave such great new life to antique patterns herself.

Como dije en mi último artículo, la comunidad de frivolité se une hoy en un tributo a Gina Brummett – Tatting Goddess, “diosa frivolitera”, y yo no podía dejar de participar. Pero, mirando su blog y las fotos de mis labores, descubrí que de hecho nuna había tejido uno de sus patrones. Tampoco la conocía lo suficiente como para escribir un recaordatorio adecuado – y otros lo están haciendo mucho mejor de lo que yo podría. En lugar de eso, voy a compartir la reescritura de un patrón del libro Priscilla 3 que hice hace algún tiempo y no habia publicado acá. Está en inglés y en español, y lo pondré también en mi página de patrones. Humildemente me parece un buen recordatorio, dado que ella dio nueva vida a muchos patrones antiguos.

And a simple variation, to turn the edging into a bookmark: just work it twice, joining in the chains that go around the big rings.

Una variante sencilla para tranasformar la puntilla en señalador: hacerla dos veces, enfrentadas, uniendo en las cadenas que rodean a los anillos grandes.

A dragon from a film… ~ Un dragón de película…

Just as I was finishing the blue and purple dragon, we watched a film called “How to train your dragon” How fitting, I thought! And then, browsing InTatters albums, I saw one made in a colour combination that reminded me of Toothless – so of course, I had to make this!

Cuando estaba terminando el dragón violeta y azul, vimos la película “Cómo entrenar a tu dragón” ¡Qué adecuado, pensé! Y después, mirando un album en InTatters, vi uno hecho en una combinación de colores que me hizo acordar a Chimuelo – así que por supuesto, ¡tuve que hacer este!

The pattern is in Anne Bruvold‘s blog. This time I used black (and a bit of brown!) DMC size 8 cotton perlé thread, and added one strand of DMC Jewel effects metallic mouliné thread to the wing chains. I had to do double core single shuttle split rings to climb out (ie. tatt the first part of the SSSR with both shuttles together), but it was worth the effort I think!

El patrón está en el blog de Anne Bruvold. Esta vez usé hilo DMC perlé no. 8, negro (y un poquito de marrón), y agregué una hebra de mouliné “Jewl effects” tambien de DMC en las cadenas de las alas. Tuve que usar anillos divididos de una sola naveta de nucleo doble para pasar de ronda (es dedir, hacer la primer mitad del anillo dividido con las dos navetas juntas), pero valió la pena el esfuerzo, creo!

Before posting, I want to mention my sadness at the recent death of Gina Brumet, who was truly a pillar of the on-line tatting community. Her blog  was probably the first stop every morning for tatters all over the world. She was always kind in her comments to others, and sharing her vast knowledge without presumption – her blog is truly a treasure of anitque patterns and her tatting blog roll is one of the most exhausitve. She will truly be missed and lovingly be remembered. I want to join this Idea IsDihara mentions: Lady ShuttleMaker and CrazyMom have offered up a truly lovely suggestion — to make a tribute to Gina, who touched and enriched our lives with her wit and wisdom:

I think in a sense, that is already happening, with many bloggers that had been silent for a while posting their sadness and condolences. So, I will be joining on Friday  in my tribute.

Antes de publicar esto, no quiero dejar de mencionar mi tristeza por la reciente pérdida de Gina Brumet, que era un verdadero pilar de la comunidad virtual de frivolité. Su blog era probablemente la primer visita diaria de frivoliteros de alrededor de todo el mundo. Siempre era amable en sus comentarios, y compartía sus vastos concoimeintos sin pretenciones – su blog tiene una bilblioteca de patrones antiguos que es un verdadero tesoro, y su “blogroll” sobre frivolité es uno de los más exhaustivos.  Será extrañada, indudablemente, y recordada con afecto. Quiero unirme  a la propuesta de IsDihara, LadyShuttleMaker y CrazyMom, de hacer un tributo a Gina, que enterneció y enriqueció nuestras vidsas con su ingenio y sabiduría.  La idea es publicar posts dulces en su memoria el viernes (o cuando podamos escribirlos) Como dicen, seguramente a Gina le gustaría.
